Did we make the Check? Who made the Check? Did we record the Check?
We all live with checklists, some self imposed, but many others imposed by third parties, commonly a governmental agency. The consequence of failure to check varies, but some can be significant.
While we fully plan to perform the checks, it seems more often than not:
- We just forget
- We don’t adequately record what we did
- We can’t find the record when we need it
Let’s take a common example. Failure to perform effective check on your fire extinguishers could have possible regulatory, safety, and liability ramifications for your company.
Fire extinguishers
In most states you are required to make monthly checks to insure:
- They are present where require
- Access is not blocked
- Pressure is at the correct level
- The pin and tamper seal are intact
- There are no signs of abuse
Possible failures to comply consequences include:
- You are fined
- The extinguisher does not perform, resulting in substantial loss
- Your resulting liability becomes severe
- Your insurance rate goes up
- And more
ComplianceChecker makes it easy to confirm, record, and report the compliance specifics. In fact if you are already using GuardChecker, it is really a simple add on.
Setup: After the company identifies the number of tags required to ID each fire extinguisher, Oversight-Inc sends the tags affixed to a form that makes it easy to transfer information to your database. The company uniquely specifies each fire extinguisher, including a location; mounts the tag on each fire extinguisher, and transfers the information on their secure web site. They develop an insert for their Message Pad to specify which checks are required.
Operation: When the monthly inspection time arrives, a properly trained Security Guard, using data collection hardware (perhaps the same used for GC) to record not only the D/T of the inspection, but also using the MP record the specific results. Like GC, the inspection information is transferred to your secure web site.
Reports:
- Now the company has an easily accessible record for each fire extinguisher that includes:
- The date and time of each inspection
- The person who made the inspection
- The specific inspection results
- Exception Reports can also show:
- Specific fire extinguishers not inspected during a particular time frame
