Data Collection Hardware

Many Options – What’s Best?

Oversight-Inc is not exclusive to any hardware manufacturer. In fact, we have already written the code that works with three of the most common brands.

Pulsestar

Centor 8000

By design, Oversight-Inc’s data collection process can add new devices fairly easily.

While we are not tied to any manufacturer, we will make recommendations and procure your chosen hardware. Based on our experience, the following criteria are most important:

  • Cost
  • Ruggedness
  • Reparability (time and cost)
  • Ease of use (reader and download device)
  • Batteries (type and life)

Cost is always an issue. We at Oversight-Inc try to sort through the marketing hype to determine the true cost effectiveness of each hardware option.

We also focus on ruggedness. In many operational situations the users, especially guards, tend to be pretty rough on any device. We seek ruggedness appropriate to the collection environment.

Follow On Service

No matter what device you choose occasionally there will be issues. Since Oversight-Inc stands behind the hardware we recommend, we make sure the replacements are provided quickly and at no charge if it is within the manufacturer’s warranty. For some hardware we will maintain an on-site repair capability. Regardless, we work for our Clients in dealing with the manufacturer.

Most devices are fairly easy to use, but not all. There is also the issue of the download device that transfers the data from the device to the on-site computer. There is considerable variability, especially as operating consistently evolve, i.e., XP to Vista, to Windows7. Oversight-Inc’s goal is to make the entire process as easy and reliable as possible.

A minor cost and hassle issue relates to batteries, both type and life. We tend to prefer inexpensive and easy to procure batteries such as AA or AAA, rather than the more exotic (and expensive) camera like batteries. We also prefer simple devices that are very energy efficient.

Additional Hardware Options

We also offer several unique devices, including a transfer device and a time and attendance collection device.

Time and Attendance Device

The transfer device stores much more data and permits you collect the data from multiple readers, and then take it to be transferred to your data base using on-site computer.

The T&A device is more permanently attached and can be used to collect the guard’s actual on site hours. This method has proven to be more foolproof.

We at Oversight-Inc understand the hardware criteria well. As we review your operating environment, we will recommend what we think will work best for you. However, we will procure what you choose and we can support.
